Youth Employment Program (YEP)

Your Path to Employment Success begins with YEP

At YEP, we are passionate about shaping the future of young individuals and businesses. We believe that every youth deserves the opportunity to succeed, and every employer should have access to a pool of talented and motivated individuals. Our mission is to bridge the gap between eager, aspiring youth and forward-thinking employers.

We run the Youth Employment Program (YEP), a government-funded initiative designed to empower and transform the lives of young people aged 15 to 30 who face employment challenges. YEP is a two-phase program that combines classroom learning with real-world experience. We equip our participants with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the workforce, and we connect them with employers looking for fresh, enthusiastic talent.

Our program stands out for its comprehensive approach, providing intensive classroom training in job search skills, career success strategies, resource management, interpersonal skills, and technical skills certifications like First Aid. After this foundational education, participants engage in a twelve-week paid job placement, putting their newly acquired skills into practice.

YEP is committed to fostering a brighter future for youth and building a thriving workforce for businesses. We are dedicated to providing youth with the tools they need to secure meaningful employment, while also offering employers a unique opportunity to harness the energy and skills of our program participants.

Join us at YEP, and let’s work together to unlock potential, fuel ambitions, and create a prosperous future for both youth and businesses. Together, we can build a stronger, more vibrant community.

For individuals over the age of 30, our Employment Department may be a perfect fit. Our Work Expose Program provides a tailored approach to assist individuals in reentering, job search or advancing in the workforce. Contact us at 403-223-1169 to learn more about how “Tea” can benefit you.

How YEP Works

The Youth Employment Program (YEP) is a transformative initiative funded by the Federal Government of Canada, dedicated to helping individuals aged 15 to 30 overcome employment challenges and kickstart their careers.

YEP’s comprehensive approach begins with a six-week classroom program designed to equip participants with essential job search skills, cultivate career success strategies, nurture smart resource management, enhance interpersonal abilities, and provide technical skills and certifications.

Following this educational phase, YEP offers a ten-week paid job placement opportunity, giving you the real-world experience needed to excel in your chosen field. Join YEP, and together, we’ll pave the way for your future success.

Past participants have found paid internships in Construction, RV Mechanics, Industry, Self Employment, Child Care, Information Technology, Hotels, Media, Personal Health Care, Emergency Medical Services, Insurance Services and other diverse opportunities.

Our Guest Speakers

Carolyn Terpstra is a paramedic and certified first aid instructor. Through her, YEP participants are able to obtain first aid certification.

Each session of YEP is allowed access to Medicine Hat College and to Landon’s knowledge and experience.  We explore great programs like Nursing, Visual  Communications, Power Engineering and Engineering Technologies along with many others.

"UniFirst Taber has been a proud supporter of the Youth Employment Program for many years. I have found the concept of this program to be very rewarding for both employer and student. The staff of the YEP program is supportive and very genuine in their desire to see their students succeed. They follow up regularly to see how the student placement is going and assist when needed. What I really appreciate is that they do a great job matching the student to the job placement by visiting the business first to see if the student they have in mind would be a good fit. I feel this gives the program a great chance of success and helps the students become productive members of the community! My latest student placement has been outstanding. His work ethic is second to none and his willingness to learn and achieve is great. Day after day he goes above and beyond and has been recognized by his peers by becoming the Employee of the Month which recognizes the strong team members of our facility. Keep up the good work and I look forward to supporting this program in the future!"
